The First International Zihuatanejo Black & Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament
February 2, 3 & 4, 2024The event (Cano’s Fishing Tournaments), scheduled from February 2nd to 4th, 2024, will feature the participation of fishermen from around the world. The prizes for the winners will be over one million pesos for first place, 600 pesos for second, and 400 pesos for third.
In an effort to attract more foreign tourists and promote sportfishing in the region, the first international marlin fishing tournament will take place in Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa.
Marlin was chosen as the main species for the tournament due to conservation concerns. ‘There’s a scarcity of marlin in Zihuatanejo, making fishing more challenging,’ said the organizer. ‘One of the primary intentions of the tournament is to prevent overfishing of species.‘
The tournament will adhere to the regulations of the International Game Fish Association (IGFA). Participating fishermen must catch and release the marlin without causing harm to the fish.
